Tracking Course

Awaken your senses to the world around you.

In this course, we work on our sensitivity to our surrounding environment. The art of tracking is much more involved than simply following a trail, like a trained hunting dog. We must learn to challenge our senses, observe keenly and listen acutely. When we become familiar with the normal everyday life in the woods, certain patterns of activity, colour, sounds and smells become apparent. When we understand the normal, we can begin to pick out the exception- events that are out of place like a trodden plant, scuffed soil, rubbed bark, a colour change or a bird flying away in a hurry. In time, your ability to read these signs can even help you build a picture of the quarry.

You will practice a number of camouflage and concealment techniques and learn to stay motionless and move with stealth through several different mediums. The course focuses on developing your ability to close with target animals and birds either for hunting, photography or study. You will learn to read signs of the passage of animals, birds and fish and interpret them into a temporary, multi-layered picture.

The course will cover the following topics:

  • Purpose of Tracking
  • Applications of Tracking in Modern Life
  • Limitations of Human Senses
  • Animal Senses
  • Using Optical Enhancers
  • Moving Quietly In Different Mediums
  • Blending  In
