Canvas Tents and Wood Stoves (3 Days, 2 Nights) $590.00
A canvas tent combined with a small wood stove can provide an excellent level of comfort in the fourth season. Chosen historically by hunters, pioneers, prospectors and soldiers, canvas tents are particularly well suited when large groups and their gear have to be accommodated in an extended wilderness living situation. In Canvas Tents and Wood Stoves, we will create a comfortable, winter expedition-style base camp- staying warm by learning to manage our stoves with firewood we have learn to chop ourselves.
Marshland Discovery (6 Days, 5 Nights) $850.00
The Marshland Discovery adventure takes place in and around a low-lying Boreal wetland area- a rich and diverse ecosystem that has been a source of food and medicine for thousands of years. Here, we will build platforms, bird blinds and other structures to keep our tents and gear dry so we can enjoy the marsh wildlife in comfort. We will also learn to identify and experiment with ten new plant species unique to this habitat.
Prerequisite: Shelter-Building With Natural Materials (or by challenging the Shelter-Building With Natural Materials course)
Boreal Forest Discovery (6 Days, 5 Nights) $ 900.00
The Boreal Forest Discovery adventure takes place in an upland Boreal Forest, surrounded by lodgepole pines and white spruce. In this course, we will set up suspension tents and camp off the ground- getting our gear and ourselves around using ropes and ladders. We will learn about mosses, lichens, algae and fungi and go fishing using aboriginal techniques and technologies.
