Go into the wilderness, unafraid.
It takes a lot of courage to embark on a journey if you don’t know how to find your way. How do you plan to proceed? How do you prepare for what might lie ahead?
Being able to navigate in the wilderness, keeping track of where you are and getting home safely again, means independence…you can go where you want to go, return to your favourite camping spot, make your way to a safer location in an emergency, bring help back for friends who might be stranded or lead your group out of a survival situation.
Timeless Journey® Finding Your Way Home course provides a thorough, grounding in all aspects of the skill, equipping you with the ability to find your way in difficult conditions when the path or road ahead may not be clear.
You will be given time to practice each technique that you learn on this course and test your skills in practical and realistic scenarios.
The course will cover the following topics:

- Orienting A Map Correctly
- Travelling In “The Right” Direction

In the best interest of keeping to an efficient schedule and eating as well as possible, the chores of food storage, preparation and cooking this course will be supervised by a Timeless Journey® Camp Chef who will provide one hot meal cooked on an open fire each day and two cold snacks. Breakfast and supper are the responsibility of the client and are not included as part of the course fee.
At each hot meal, three-course participants will be assigned the duties of:
- collecting firewood
- assisting the camp chef in preparing the meal
- cleaning up the camp kitchen
A duty rotation schedule will be posted at the beginning of the course.
The meal plan on specialty courses will reflect the course content and exercises planned for the day. We will provide you with a detailed menu in your booking confirmation. Please let us know in your booking package or feel free to contact the office if you have any special dietary requirements or allergies and we will try our best to accommodate your requests.
At the base camp, we provide fresh fruit, cookies, drinking water, tea and coffee.
You are welcome to make, or buy, your own gear. Although we would like to encourage you to be as self-reliant as possible, all gear used by students in the course must meet the safety standards of the Quartermaster. In some cases, it may be wise to contact the Quartermaster if you have any questions or doubts about gear crafting projects you would like to undertake in preparation or if you would like to make substitutions to the items listed on the Finding The Way Home Kit List/Gear Rental Form.
In the Finding The Way Home course, we will try to help supply you with used gear for rent if you are unable to find, borrow or purchase gear for the course. To ensure a selection and availability of the items you require, please submit the Finding The Way Home Kit List/Gear Rental Form to the Quartermaster at least two weeks prior to the start of the course.
